Hi all, Been having problems with my Tyan Thunder i7500 (S2720) dual Xeon running -STABLE: it's hanging every couple of days. I couldn't find any specific fixes on the lists, but I did come across some instructions about breaking into the debugger from a serial console. I built a kernel with the following options: DDB, KDB, WITNESS & BREAK_TO_DEBUGGER (INVARIANTS wouldn't build). When it hangs, there seems to be no response - no network activity (pings), no response from the keyboard/mouse, but I *am* able to break into the debugger. I ran "show pcpu", "ps", "show threads", "show alllocks", "show lockedvnods" and saved the output. What do I do with the data to further troubleshoot my problems? Thanks.

I'm running 5.4-STABLE on a dual Xeon Tyan i7500 which is freezing up every few days. I'm still fighting with my box to find out where my problem is. I would appreciate any pointers to diagnose and/or fix this. I can't find anything on the lists or in the handbook on this level of troubleshooting. I've got INVARIANTS support turned on, but I can't tell any difference between that and the non-INVARIANTS kernel. When I break into the debugger there's no locks or lockedvnods and I can't see anything that *looks* wrong in the threads or processes. Rebooting every few days is worse than an NT server! How do I determine if it's a hardware issue, namely RAM or CPU? Can breaking into the debugger tell me that, or do I have to start swapping pieces out? Any help appreciated.

I've been plagued by instability with a S2721-533 ("Thunder i7501 Pro"), also on 5-stable, and didn't have much luck. I can freeze the system with heavy disk I/O, but I can't break to debugger at that point. Stefan -- Stefan Bethke <stb@lassitu.de> Fon +49 170 346 0140
