I have the same bug. I updated this saturday from 5.2.1 to 5.4-stable.
I never had this messages while I was running 5.2.1. The bug occured
on time when the interface was under high network load (full speed
bidirectionnal ftp transfert on a FastEthernet link).

In my case, it didn't crash the machine but I had to ifconfig down /
up to make it work.
