So far it has worked great. That's until I unplugged one of the array members. The system boots up fine from the second disk, but the problem ... I can't get atacontrol to rebuild the mirror onto the disk that was removed. I have tried every command on the atacontrol man page, but to no avail. OS : FreeBSD 4.10 System : P3 IDE controller : Intel ICH2 ATA100 controller and 2 x 40 GB disks. On FreeBSD 5 atacontrol has an additional command "addspare" that I have used with success to add a disk to a RAID1 array and rebuild it. Now that you know some of the details, here are the questions 1.. How "safe" is the atacontrol raid feature? 2.. How do I rebuild an atacontrol RAID1 array on FreeBSD 4.10? Any help would be appreciated, I have been at it the whole day! You have to do a 'atacontrol detach "channelOfTheFailedDrive"' and 'atacontrol attach "channelOfTheFailedDrive"' then 'atacontrol rebuild ar0' -------------------------------------------------------------------- -- C:>WIN | Solar Thermal Systems The computer obeys and wins. | http://www.soleire.com/ You lose and Bill collects. | Directable Mirror Arrays | http://www.sohara.org/
