The FreeBSD System Administrator is primarily responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure for our global network consisting of leased and owned servers from a variety of vendors spanning dozens of countries and cities. The System Administrator participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. The System Administrator ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures are kept up to date and current. Ideally, applicants must have at least 5 years of experience working in a Server Operations or IT Helpdesk environment and be knowledgeable in common system administration, including large scale email systems, networking, IP protocols, VPN technologies, the FreeBSD Operating System and familiar with IP Geolocation strategies and issues. The System Administrator must be an effective communicator able to interact with other Engineers, Support Staff, Executives, Vendors, and occasionally with customers in writing to troubleshoot and resolve service issues. Applicants must be US Citizens currently residing in the US. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: ? Associates or Bachelors Degree, 5 years experience as a System Administrator or in a Helpdesk, Technical Support or Server Operations Center role or equivalent combination of education and experience. ? Past experience developing Operations policies/procedures. ? Good communicator with a natural aptitude for dealing with people. ? Comfortable interfacing with vendors/remote hands during outages. ? Excellent troubleshooting and network diagnostic skills. ? LAN/WAN system design & troubleshooting. ? Experience with Cisco routers & switches a plus. ? Experience with data center automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, Cfengine (or others) a plus. ? Experience with designing, deploying, and running large email systems a plus. ? Hardware troubleshooting - break/fix. ? FreeBSD (or other UNIX) system administration skills. ? Understanding and working experience of VPNs, firewalls & network security concepts. ? Familiarity with or past usage of Network Management Systems (OpenNMS a plus). ? Familiarity with Security Information Management Systems (AlienVault a plus). ? Work well in a busy team, being quick to learn and able to deal with a wide range of issues. ? Strong analytical skills and able to collate and interpret data from various sources. ? Ability to assess and prioritize system faults, respond to or escalate accordingly. ? Must be willing to being on call including some holidays.
