Hi, we're a small label in Honolulu, Hawaii, starting up, offering FLAC downloads of live performances of local artists, and we're wondering how is the support for 24-bit FLAC files? Our concern is that would it be too difficult for users to burn 24-bit FLAC recordings to CD? Are there any simple tools that convert 24-bit FLAC to 16-bit FLAC, or burning applications that transparently do the conversion when you burn a disc? FLAC supports 24-bit recordings of live performances quite well - it's what I use FLAC for mostly. Programs like WaveBurner, which ships with Apple's Logic Pro, allow for on-the-fly sample-rate-conversion and dithering for bit-depth reduction. But with many other burning programs, the process will not be so easy and automatic. I believe there are command-line tools, perhaps freely available, which will handle dithering from 24- bit to 16-bit. I hesitate to answer your question with another question, but is any software available for burning DVD-Audio discs? Users could burn 24- bit files directly to a 24-bit format supported by audiophile players, if this were the case. Alas, I believe the only existing tools have steep licensing fees, and are not geared towards easy use by novices. Ulead's Burn. Now is pretty decent (only played with it briefly, though), and it's $40 or thereabouts. Cheers, Martin
Yes, we've been using r8brain to convert our 24-bit files to 16-bit files for our site (great little software). Will try to pick up a later version of Nero. Thanks for all the input! --rid sevilla cabbit records www.cabbitrecords.com On 6/27/07, rappard@dds.nl <rappard@dds.nl> wrote:> > [snip] > > the support for 24-bit FLAC files?
