I have just downloaded and installed the 2.6.20-295.10.fc7.i686.rpm First question: Is this the correct package for my hardware? CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 Assuming that it is the right package: When I boot, the xen kernel, it gets a lot further than it did with 7, 8, or 9, but it still crashes, followed immediately by a reboot. I haven''t worked out if there is a log file of the boot output (any pointers there appreciated), but I have taken a photo of the screen just before reboot. It includes the following: <snip> ==============================BUG: scheduling while atomic: rc.sysinit/0xc1fcc050/433 1 lock held by rc.sysinit/428: #0: (&mm-)mmap_sem){....}, at: [(c11f7518)] do_page_fault+0x63a/0xc7h [(c1005d3a)] show_trace_log_lvl_0x1a/0x2f <snip> ==============================Kernel panic - not syncing: Aiee, killing interrupt handler! I hope that this is useful. If I can provide any more info please let me know. Regards, Langdon

Re: [Fedora-xen] Boot fails with 2.6.20-295.10.fc7
Hi Itamar No, I haven''t tried the x86-64 bit version. When I installed F7 test 4 the installer selected the i386 version of the kernel from the distribution. So, I assumed that it knew what it was doing and followed suit when choosing an RPM to use. Re: [Fedora-xen] Boot fails with 2.6.20-295.10.fc7
Ok, have just read up on 64 bit Fedora and have concluded that (as I use this machine as a day to day workstation) I probably can''t switch to the 64 bit kernel easily. I use quite a large mix of applications, so it is likely that the 64 bit kernel will cause me other problems even if it fixes my Xen issue. So my strong preference is to stick with the 32 bit kernel Regards, Langdon Itamar Reis Peixoto wrote:> are you using fedora 64 bits ? > > > have you try the x86-64 ? > > > -------------------- > > Itamar Reis Peixoto > > e-mail: itamar@ispbrasil.com.br > msn: itamarjp@starmedia.com > skype: itamarjp icq: 81053601 > +55 34 3238 3845 > +55 11 4063 5033 > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Langdon Stevenson" > <langdon@lindenrow.com.au> > To: <Fedora-xen@redhat.com> > Sent: Monday, May 28, 2007 8:16 PM > Subject: [Fedora-xen] Boot fails with 2.6.20-295.10.fc7 > > >> I have just downloaded and installed the 2.6.20-295.10.fc7.i686.rpm >> >> First question: Is this the correct package for my hardware? >> >> CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 >> Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 >> >> >> Assuming that it is the right package: When I boot, the xen kernel, it >> gets a lot further than it did with 7, 8, or 9, but it still crashes, >> followed immediately by a reboot. >> >> I haven''t worked out if there is a log file of the boot output (any >> pointers there appreciated), but I have taken a photo of the screen >> just before reboot. Usually it''s a matter of wanting to run a 32 bit browser so that proprietary plugins will work (yes, I''m looking at you Adobe). 32 bit apps in general should run fine on a 64 bit kernel, provided you install the relevant 32 bit libs. I was basing my comment above on what I had found via Google on the pros and cons of 32 v''s 64 bit Linux kernels. My situation is that I have put together a new workstation that I use every day, with a 32 bit kernel and all of the application that I need (other than virtualisation). What I read suggested that I would see little benefit from a 64 bit kernel in this context It took me almost two weeks to set up this new machine (I have just ditched Windows for Linux, so I am on a steep learning curve) with all of the applications that I need and I am scared stiff of having to rebuild from the ground up to get a xen kernel. Given that, if I switch to a 64 bit kernel is everything still going to work? Or will it require that I start from scratch? Regards, Langdon

It''s ironic though that Acrobat is one of the few things that I haven''t managed to get working yet ... Regards, Langdon
