Facebooker talk - Feb 2009 - javascript events and fb-editor elements

This is probably a completely naive question given how straightforward the
documentation is (
http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Fb:editor-textarea), but is
there any way to add FBJS events (onkeyup etc) to the fb-editor-textarea
element to do something like a live character count?

I''ve tried adding it, but it looks as though facebook ignores event
attributes.
