I don't know if it is a good idea to resurrect such an old thread, but...

Any chance there has been movement on this?

There is a Thunderbird bug opened for supporting this:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439047

and it would be much easier to try to push it forward if there was
actually a server that supported it already.
