We run dovecot 1.2.10 on Solaris 10 and had a few days ago this error
message in the logs:

Probably happens rarely enough that it doesn't really matter. I already
fixed it for v2.0 though, you could probably apply the same patch to
v1.2: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-2.0/rev/8f251e0bc02d
