[crossbow-discuss] DRAFT: Crossbow System Admin docs now available
Hi Everyone - I''ve posted three draft chapters for your interest and, hopefully, for your review, of the upcoming part "Network Virtualization and Resource Control" (aka Crossbow) for the book "System Administration Guide: Network Interfaces and Network Virtualization." Please have a look and post comments. Go to the following page and look in the "Administration Guides and Other Books" section to launch the chapter .pdfs: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/crossbow/Docs/ These draft chapters constitute a "technical review" of basic tasks for constructing a virtual network and a private network. Their target audience is a system administrator of a small-to-medium sized business, although the information can certainly be used by ISPs. More complex virtual network topologies--as well as resource control--will come in my next review. "Planning a VNIC Configuration" includes a topology diagram and a description of the basic virtual network and private virtual network, plus some figures for scenarios that will have tasks in my next review. "Configuring VNICs" contains tasks for creating virtual networks, including private networks. There is also a task for removing VNICs. Note that the writing style and organization is that of all the Solaris System Administration books on docs.sun.com. The tasks are based on the steps I used to build a virtual network and a separate, private network on my lab machine. "Administering VNICs" (which might have a different name by the time you get this) contains observability tasks to help the sysadmin verify that the virtual networks are configured correctly. Although some of the dladm steps are in the previous chapter, I''ve repeated them here so that people can eventually search them separately from Google or docs.sun.com search. Thanks to Mike Lim and Raoul Carag for help and support. - Steff This message posted from opensolaris.org
