compiz - Feb 2008 - compiz works really strange with external monitor

Hi, u found this bug with compiz turned on:

"metacity doesn't know what is the full screen resolution"

Can you please look at it and say if this looks like a compiz, X,
gnome which bug :)

On Fedora bugzilla[1] Matej suggested[2] that this is compiz bug, but
I attached[3] a new image that shows same bug on KDE 4.0. AFAIK KDE
4.0 uses its own compositing and not compiz so this looks maybe as
some underlaying bug? X.org maybe?

If you think it is a compiz bug just tell me and I will enter new bug
in compiz bugzilla.

I've been aware of this issue for about a year or more now, but never
really considered it a bug. Like  Danny sais in the cf bug report [1],
it's totally wm-dependant how to treat this issue.

However, I believe it makes sense for Compiz to have an option to
ignore outputs that are completely overlapped by larger outputs, as
this makes a lot of sense. It also shouldn't be too hard to implement.

I'm having difficulties seeing where it wouldn't be smart, but I know
the existing behavior served a purpose for me when my tv (1024x768)
was cloned with my LCD (1280x1024). I could maximize movies to fit the
tv, which was convenient, but it looked quote bad on the larger LCD.
