[CentOS] [OT] Cannot boot into GUI after Video Driver is Installed
Good Day, I am not 100% certain if here is the right place to bring this up, however if this is the wrong place for this please redirect me to right place. A few weeks ago I was trying to install KVM on my laptop, I bought a new laptop and immediately after I install the nVidia drivers I receive the following error "libfcoe_device_notification: NETDEV_UNREGISTER lo" I spent several hours googling the error and there are several issues, however none of them are related to my situation. I am running CentOS 6.2 LSB Version: :core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch:graphics-4.0-amd64:graphics-4.0-noarch:printing-4.0-amd64:printing-4.0-noarch Distributor ID: CentOS Description: CentOS release 6.2 (Final) Release: 6.2 Codename: Final Below are some of the errors that I extracted from the logs May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: ACPI: Video Device [GFX0] (multi-head: yes rom: yes post: no) May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: ------------[ cut here ]------------ May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: WARNING: at fs/proc/generic.c:590 proc_register+0x129/0x220() (Not tainted) May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: Hardware name: N55SL May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: proc_dir_entry 'video/GFX0' already registered May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: Modules linked in: i915(+) nouveau ttm drm_kms_helper drm i2c_algo_bit i2c_core mxm_wmi wmi video output dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: Pid: 192, comm: modprobe Not tainted 2.6.32-220.17.1.el6.x86_64 #1 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: Call Trace: May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81069c97>] ? warn_slowpath_common+0x87/0xc0 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81069d86>] ? warn_slowpath_fmt+0x46/0x50 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff811e1b99>] ? proc_register+0x129/0x220 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff811e2342>] ? proc_mkdir_mode+0x42/0x60 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff811e2376>] ? proc_mkdir+0x16/0x20 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa0043d03>] ? acpi_video_bus_add+0x239/0xff2 [video] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff811ed96c>] ? sysfs_add_one+0x2c/0x130 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff811ede98>] ? sysfs_do_create_link+0xd8/0x170 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff812c8c8c>] ? acpi_device_probe+0x50/0x122 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81346b70>] ? driver_probe_device+0xa0/0x2a0 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81346d70>] ? __driver_attach+0x0/0xb0 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81346e1b>] ? __driver_attach+0xab/0xb0 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81346d70>] ? __driver_attach+0x0/0xb0 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81345dd4>] ? bus_for_each_dev+0x64/0x90 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff8134690e>] ? driver_attach+0x1e/0x20 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81346210>] ? bus_add_driver+0x200/0x300 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81347146>] ? driver_register+0x76/0x140 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff811e2342>] ? proc_mkdir_mode+0x42/0x60 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff812ca366>] ? acpi_bus_register_driver+0x43/0x45 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa0044b03>] ? acpi_video_register+0x47/0x74 [video] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa01bb76d>] ? i915_driver_load+0x79d/0x1360 [i915] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff81343e3e>] ? device_register+0x1e/0x30 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa0081a26>] ? drm_sysfs_device_add+0x86/0xb0 [drm] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa007e643>] ? drm_get_minor+0x1d3/0x310 [drm] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa0080def>] ? drm_get_pci_dev+0x19f/0x300 [drm] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff8126d26a>] ? kobject_get+0x1a/0x30 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa008101e>] ? drm_pci_init+0xce/0x130 [drm] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa0240000>] ? i915_init+0x0/0x8d [i915] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffffa024008b>] ? i915_init+0x8b/0x8d [i915] May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff8100204c>] ? do_one_initcall+0x3c/0x1d0 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff810af891>] ? sys_init_module+0xe1/0x250 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [<ffffffff8100b0f2>] ? system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: ---[ end trace 321b976d16c917ce ]--- May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: ACPI Warning: _BQC returned an invalid level (20090903/video-626) May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: acpi device:46: registered as cooling_device9 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: input: Video Bus as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/LNXVIDEO:01/input/input6 May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: ACPI: Video Device [GFX0] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no) May 20 19:30:51 wildfire kernel: [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for 0000:00:02.0 on minor 0 -----------------------------------output cut-------------------------- May 20 19:31:17 wildfire kernel: Bluetooth: SCO (Voice Link) ver 0.6 May 20 19:31:17 wildfire kernel: Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized May 20 19:31:17 wildfire bluetoothd[2434]: HCI dev 0 registered May 20 19:31:17 wildfire xinetd[2450]: xinetd Version 2.3.14 started with libwrap loadavg labeled-networking options compiled in. If you do an lsmod, does it show nouveau? Second question: does the version of kmod-nvidia support your graphics card? Oh, and did you yum install it, so that you got nvidia-x11-drv? mark, who just noticed that he's got that, *and* nvidia-x11-drv-32bit, on his x86_64 system for some reason....
