Hi. Do we still have to change the yum repositories addresses with CentOS 4 to point to another local mirror, or can we leave the default ''mirror.centos.org'' repository ? I ask that because last year there has been a huge bandwidth overload and I don''t know if the ''mirror.centos.org'' automatically redirects to a local mirror (which might be theoretically possible) or not. In other words, are there some configuration changes requirements or suggestions from the CentOS team for yum to be fair with the main mirror of centos.org, or is everything transparent for the user and he just needs to type ''yum update'' ? I don''t notice to many mirrors in the mirrors DNS record: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=mirror.centos.org&type=A I''ve also noticed decreased download performance using just mirror. I find i can milk my bandwidth using a local mirror ( all 54 KB/s of it.. roar.. ) just fine and prefer that. We have added some mirrors (that are controlled by CentOS.org) to the mirror list. You might still find that a local mirror is faster, and we still recommend that you use a local mirror. We are currently testing an auto configuration script for yum, but haven''t released it yet. If there are any ISPs or other users (Universities, major Corporations, etc.) who use CentOS and want to give back by donating a machine that the CentOS team can use as a mirror server (and to host bittorrents for iso downloads), please contact us at lance.at.centos.org, donavan.at.centos.org, or johnny.at.centos.org (use @ for .at.). We are always in need of more bandwidth :) I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have donated servers to the CentOS team. Hello, Johnny. Thanks for that information. Now I don''t fear too much using the mirror.centos.org domain. But I will maybe change the mirror to make sure.
