Hi, I''ve a problem with kudzu hardware detection powering down my UPS power supply (Fideltronik Ares 1000) which is connected via a serial connection - obviously this is bad (the power to the computer cuts out)... This happens both during installation (I just unplugged it for the length of the installation) and afterwards during boot time initialization - any ideas what sort of magic param I should pass (and where) to keep kudzu from checking the 1st (or is it second? :)) serial port? Cheers, MaZe.
any comments? beautiful but is this the only solution? On Thu, 3 Mar 2005, Ken Godee wrote:> > any comments? > > > > "chkconfig --level 0123456 kudzu off" > _______________________________________________ > CentOS mailing list > CentOS@caosity.org > http://lists.caosity.org/mailman/listinfo/centos >
nevermind, seems changing /etc/sysconfig/kudzu (SAFE=yes) should do the trick, but this still turns off too much (both serial ports, and PS/2 and DDC monitor) instead of just one serial port... After you config your system, turn it off. I never could stand the pause it causes while booting up. When you add/change hardware, turn it on, configure hardware, then turn off.
I guess you''re right, I always do turn it off (eventually once everything is done and I''m killing/turning off processes), it''s just it shouldn''t do what it does either way, it''s powered down my system thrice now :) On Thu, 3 Mar 2005, Ken Godee wrote:> > nevermind, seems changing /etc/sysconfig/kudzu > > (SAFE=yes) should do the trick, but this still > > turns off too much (both serial ports, and PS/2 and DDC monitor) > > instead of just one serial port... > > > > On Thu, 3 Mar 2005, Ken Godee wrote: > > > > > >>>any comments? > >>> > >> > >>"chkconfig --level 0123456 kudzu off" > > Not really sure why you would need to run > kuduz every time you boot? > > After you config your system, turn it off. > > I never could stand the pause it causes > while booting up. > > When you add/change hardware, turn it on, > configure hardware, then turn off. > > > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > CentOS mailing list > CentOS@caosity.org > http://lists.caosity.org/mailman/listinfo/centos >

How often do you not reboot your machine? And how does your reply to this thread help the original problem this guy is having?

Easy now. The beatin''s will continue until morale improves! Why not: chkconfig kudzu off Turn it on when you need to add new hardware. Otherwise, enjoy the extra seconds in life. ;-) Jonathan

CMC> Wow, how often do you reboot your machine? KG> Hmmmm, let me see, when ever I need to. Me, too. But that''s not very often, and I generally have enough other things to do that a few seconds while kudzu runs doesn''t faze me. KG> And how does your reply to this thread help the original KG> problem this guy is having? It doesn''t. I just found it hard to believe that shaving a few seconds off a reboot could really make a big difference in someone''s life. If kudzu is killing your machine, well, yeah, you''d want to stop that. Seems like there were several other useful suggestions to handle that situation. Relax, dude.
