few messages ago I wrote just to install three rpms from the 4 final to change redhat-release, yum.conf and yum.repos/centos* centos-release-4-0.1.i386.rpm yum-2.2.0-1.centos4.2.noarch.rpm centos-yumconf-4-2.noarch.rpm hope this can help for yum... starting from an 4.0rc1... from older releases maybe better to start from cd/dvd with linux upgradeany or to do a fresh install and move your configurations/applications... cheers, Bruno Chaitanya Krishna A ha scritto:>hi, > >nice to know centos-4 has been released. > >pretty much excited to update to centos-4. > >can someone help me out with the yum update. how do i >do the upgrade with yum? do i need to change in the >yum.conf file which i am adding below. or will this >do. > >[main] >cachedir=/var/cache/yum >debuglevel=2 >logfile=/var/log/yum.log >pkgpolicy=newest >distroverpkg=redhat-release >installonlypkgs=kernel kernel-smp kernel-hugemem >kernel-enterprise kernel-debug kernel-unsupported >kernel-smp-unsupported ke >rnel-hugemem-unsupported >tolerant=1 >exactarch=1 > >[base] >name=CentOS-$releasever - Base >baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/ >gpgcheck=1 > >#released updates >[update] >name=CentOS-$releasever - Updates >baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/updates/$basearch/ >gpgcheck=1 > >#packages used/produced in the build but not released >[addons] >name=CentOS-$releasever - Addons >baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/addons/$basearch/ >gpgcheck=1 > >#additional packages that may be useful >[extras] >name=CentOS-$releasever - Extras >baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/extras/$basearch/ >gpgcheck=1 > >#packages in testing >#[testing] > >thanks. >chaitanya. > > > > >__________________________________ >Celebrate Yahoo!''s 10th Birthday! >Yahoo! You will have issues if you currently use LVM ... there are also issues with extended ext2/ext3 file features with SELinux. There is a process where you can force install the kernel, module tools and upgrade with the old yum (by pointing to the new repo) ... but it doesn''t work all the time, or reliably. The "linux upgradeany" install works much better ... but even it is not 100% effective. As recommended by the documentation, the best thing to do is a full reinstall when upgrading from CentOS-3.x or CentOS-2.1 to CentOS-4.> --- Bruno Depero <bruno.depero@digicar.com> wrote: > >> few messages ago I wrote just to install three rpms >> from the 4 final to >> change redhat-release, yum.conf and >> yum.repos/centos* >> centos-release-4-0.1.i386.rpm >> yum-2.2.0-1.centos4.2.noarch.rpm >> centos-yumconf-4-2.noarch.rpm >> >> hope this can help for yum... starting from an >> 4.0rc1... from older >> releases maybe better to start from cd/dvd with >> linux upgradeany or to >> do a fresh install and move your >> configurations/applications... >> >> cheers, >> Bruno >> >> Chaitanya Krishna A ha scritto: >> >> >hi, >> > >> >nice to know centos-4 has been released. >> > >> >pretty much excited to update to centos-4. >> > >> >can someone help me out with the yum update. how do >> i >> >do the upgrade with yum? do i need to change in the >> >yum.conf file which i am adding below. or will this >> >do. >> > >> >[main] >> >cachedir=/var/cache/yum >> >debuglevel=2 >> >logfile=/var/log/yum.log >> >pkgpolicy=newest >> >distroverpkg=redhat-release >> >installonlypkgs=kernel kernel-smp kernel-hugemem >> >kernel-enterprise kernel-debug kernel-unsupported >> >kernel-smp-unsupported ke >> >rnel-hugemem-unsupported >> >tolerant=1 >> >exactarch=1 >> > >> >[base] >> >name=CentOS-$releasever - Base >> >>baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/ >> >gpgcheck=1 >> > >> >#released updates >> >[update] >> >name=CentOS-$releasever - Updates >> >>baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/updates/$basearch/ >> >gpgcheck=1 >> > >> >#packages used/produced in the build but not >> released >> >[addons] >> >name=CentOS-$releasever - Addons >> >>baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/addons/$basearch/ >> >gpgcheck=1 >> > >> >#additional packages that may be useful >> >[extras] >> >name=CentOS-$releasever - Extras >> >>baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/extras/$basearch/ >> >gpgcheck=1 >> > >> >#packages in testing >> >#[testing] >> > >> >thanks. >> >chaitanya.
