Could someone write a quick recap of this for those of us who are interested and happened to miss it? Morey Roof wrote:> Could someone write a quick recap of this for those of us who are > interested and happened to miss it?Everyone on the call seems to be waiting for someone else to respond. I''ll do it just to make up for dedup :) - Chris said he saw major performance problems from pdflush and he is currently working on a btrfs thread to fix this. - Eric has been testing v0.16 single-stream-write performance and is seeing kswapd issues (also part of Chris''s fix) and will take Chris''s code as soon as it is ready. - Josef is rewriting the in-memory extent allocator to make it perform much better and will also fix multithreading. - Ming Ming and Chris will try to arrange a general breakout session for all filesystems at the plumber''s conference in september. (Chris is presenting a talk on btrfs at the conference) - I listened and contributed only this synopsis. jim -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-btrfs" in the body of a message to majordomo@vger.kernel.org More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html
Thank you. Also, did they get around to talking about when they are going to merge in some of the queued up patches? -Morey On Wed, 2008-08-13 at 16:22 -0400, jim owens wrote:> Morey Roof wrote: > > Could someone write a quick recap of this for those of us who are > > interested and happened to miss it? > > Everyone on the call seems to be waiting for someone else > to respond. Morey Roof wrote:> Thank you. Also, did they get around to talking about when they are > going to merge in some of the queued up patches? We have never discussed code merges on any calls. Probably because Chris does all that merge work. I would not expect anything until he finishes the flush thread. -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-btrfs" in the body of a message to majordomo@vger.kernel.org More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html

Call summary: Chris has been rewriting fsync to improve performance - 10X better multi-threaded scaling for regular files - directory fsync performance has not been addressed Ric noted that Josef''s fine-granularity timer work in the main line could boost btrfs fsync performance. Eric has seen single stream write performance drop after v.15, his runs indicate allocator-induced stalls. Josef is working on allocator fix round 3... round 2 had regressions in some benchmarks. Chris proposed he try a design midway between the round 1 and round 2 code. Eric noted build problems with older kernels (2.16.18 ?) because of the btrfs NFS patch... needs volunteer to fix. Eric and Chris discussed testing using some of the xfs tests without using the complete harness suite. More plumber''s conference discussion, Chris''s btrfs talk will be fairly high level (as expected given where we are). Attendance is expected to be good on all days including the last day (so if I go, I won''t leave early). How to set up the filesystem BOF is pending plumber''s site update. -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-btrfs" in the body of a message to majordomo@vger.kernel.org More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html
