[asterisk-users] Any way to go from factory reset 7970 to SIP without Call Manager?
I've been having some problems with a couple of 7970G so I decided to factory them. In doing so, it seems to have rendered the phones unbootable as they (as I understand it) are factory'd with some version of SCCP code, which makes it constantly looking for term70.default.loads file which it never seems to be able to pick up from the tftp server. It just seems to keep rebooting itself with a blank, dark screen. I spoke to Cisco who said it's not possible to load a SIP version of software without Call Manager. Is this true?

Is this true? No, it isn't true. On this web page you can find explanation how to upgrade to SIP firmware. Use 8.0.2, because 8.0.4 doesn't register with Asterisk. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+phone+cisco+7970+SIP I'm using "Another SEP<mac>.xml.cnf example" from that web page. -- Tomislav Par?ina Lama Computers Split Stinice 12, 21000 Split Tel.: +385(21)495148 Mob.: +385(91)1212148 SIP: tomo@pbx.lama.hr e-mail: tparcina#lama.hr http://www.lama.hr

Take a look at your TFTP server logs and see what files the phone is trying to download. My guess is it is probably looking for gkdefault.cfg then gk<MAC>.cfg .. The gkdefault.cfg file is a compiled file that tells the phone what image to download. If you have a CCO login you can download a linux app that compiles the gkdefault.cfg file for you. All of the 7900 series phones that I have boot up this way. I don't have any 7970Gs however. -- Matthew S. Crocker Vice President Crocker Communications, Inc.
