asterisk users - Jan 2006 - Very low audio levels after asterisk answers inbound calls

The problem started this evening with no changes that I caused to a
perfectly working asterisk installation but inbound callers are geting
very low audio levels once asterisk answers the line.

Is there some functionality like a "volume control knob" somewhere
that I am unaware of? Let me know. Thanks.
