If both end points are g.729 and they go through asterisk but asterisk does not monitor or otherwise do any call processing its just passing the data through itself. If all of your devices are configured (and support) G.729a and you do not use voicemail, AND all of your voice prompts are converted to g.729 so there is NO transcoding. For example, if I use teliax as my voip provider (which I do) and have g729 as my preferred codec, then configure my polycom phone to use g729 and convert all voice prompts to g729, in theory, I would not need to have a license. Unless you want to monitor a call, or use voicemail, or use meetme that is. My suggestion is, give 10$ to digium, buy a license and avoid all problems Zoa Darrick Hartman wrote:> Mark Quitoriano wrote: > >> What do they mean by pass thru? >> >> http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+G.729+pass-thru >> >> >> http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users > > > I thought that page states it very plainly. You have to pay $10 per channel that you want, and if you want to have a call go through asterisk where both end points are g.729 you need to licenses, one to asterisk and one from it. This can be a lot more costly if that is the only use for it. If however you want to be an end point or process data somehow in the middle (such as monitor) then you need to buy licenses to legally use that codec in some countries (others its questionable and others still its not required). -- Trixter http://www.0xdecafbad.com Bret McDanel UK +44 870 340 4605 Germany +49 801 777 555 3402 US +1 360 207 0479 or +1 516 687 5200 FreeWorldDialup: 635378 http://www.sacaug.org/ Sacramento Asterisk Users Group -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
