Sorry for replying to my own message. I am trying to find the root of
this. The device does exist and the ownsership is the user I specified in
udev permissions:
[root@raveon zap]# ls -l
crw-rw---- 1 astpbx astpbx 196, 254 Apr 22 21:56 channel
crw-rw---- 1 astpbx astpbx 196, 0 Apr 22 21:56 ctl
crw-rw---- 1 astpbx astpbx 196, 255 Apr 22 21:56 pseudo
crw-rw---- 1 astpbx astpbx 196, 253 Apr 22 21:56 timer
This is in my /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions:
# zaptel devices -- if you want to run asterisk as a different user
# (astpbx in this case)
zap/*:astpbx:astpbx:660
