asterisk users - Nov 2004 - Digits entered ARE NOT RECOGNIZED by bank's IVR's

When I call via * my bank and an automated system ask me to enter the
numbers they aren't recognized by the system.  I'm getting an error
message that the numbers I entered are invalid.  WHY?

1.) From what are you calling?  A phone connected to an FXS port?  A SIP 
phone?

2.) How is your * box connected to the PSTN?  A T1/E1 interface?  SIP 
connection to ___?  IAX connection to ___?  An FXO port?

3.) Are you sure that DTMF is working at all?

4.) Have you tried looking up DTMF in the wiki?
