asterisk users - Sep 2004 - Creating native bridge takes long time

Sample console output:

    -- Called 3029
    -- SIP/3029-e568 is ringing
    -- SIP/3029-e568 answered SIP/3044-f79a

   <at this point, the phones have both been picked up but no sound is
heard. wait about 10 seconds>

    -- Attempting native bridge of SIP/3044-f79a and SIP/3029-e568

  <all of a sudden, both parties can hear and talk>


Any ideas on why this bridging takes so long?
