asterisk users - Sep 2004 - only hear a few ring tones

Hey gang,
 Sometimes when I call my cell thru * I only hear the "ringing" tone
once or
twice then its completly silent until I pick up my cell phone and answer my
call.  Any ideas on why I only hear a few ring tones?
