asterisk users - Jul 2004 - Asterisk GUIs at Astricon * REMINDER *

I'm working with the final details of the Astricon agenda. I haven't
got anything so far on Asterisk GUI's and there are plenty of projects
out there. I would like to invite developer's of Asterisk GUI's, both
open source and commercial, to participate.

What I'm thinking of is giving each GUI a slot of 10-15 minutes for
a presentation and then a panel discussion on the GUI theme.

If you are interested, please drop me an e-mail. If we get enough
speakers, I might to schedule this on the agenda.

We already have two parties interested, but I need a few more.

I need a reply this week! Today, if possible.

Hi, we are interested. We have developed a comercial web front end for * 
administrations (mailboxes, voicemail, platform status), as well as a visual 
tool for dialplan development.

No chance for me to pay flight + entry to conference. My wife would hack 
me in little pieces :-)

Hi Olle-

I wonder of you could please post the most recent agenda for each day, even
if it's not finalized.  Some of us can't attend the whole conference,
and so
need to pick the best days/times to come.  (I'm scheduling a trip, and a
stop at astricon could be on the way there)

There are certainly things that can be improved with
Destar and I am sure Holger will appreciate any
constructive criticism. However, your comment looks more
like mud throwing to me, not so nice.

Benj,

This is not mud throwing. This is constructive criticism for the contributors to
be more productive.

Please remember that anything that is given here as "usable solution"
should not only be usable but also useful. Whereas Destar is not. It just does
not do anything.
It has a totally blank vanilla interface to it.

Remember that the issue here is "GUI Solution for Managing Asterisk". 
Destar does not fall into that category and the code written in Python just dont
jell well with the Asterisk community, who are mostly Non-Techie novices trying
to understand what is good about Asterisk.

I made these comments as I have spent some time trying to figure out if Destar
is really useful.

Just because some indecent folks have decided to put
indecent features into mail readers doesn't mean we have
to use those features.

Many things that seem technologically advanced at first
sight turn out to be utterly nonsensical at closer
inspection. HTML in email is one such thing.

If you enable HTML in your email reader, it will provide a
means to spammers to verify your email address. In fact,
if you program your SMTP server to reject everything that
has HTML in it you will almost certainly never ever get
any spam at all, perhaps with the exception of Nigerian
419 scams which are easily caught by baynesian filters.

Those who understand the issues surrounding HTML in email
will turn HTML off in their email readers.

The argument you are making here is the same old argument
that people have used to promote Microsoft, which we all
know is the source for the most mediocre products ever in
the history of mankind. Should we all use their products
just because the bulk of the herd does? Should we shut up
lobbying against their products just because the bulk of
the herd doesn't want to hear it? I don't think so.
