If you don't need to support a lot of E&M trunks you can take a look at Multi-Tech's VoIP gateways. Expensive but they support E&M and ought to be able to be connected to Asterisk (although I haven't tried myself) using H.323 -- don't know about their SIP support. g.

If the channel bank is populated with the right cards, it may be able to convert the analog version of signaling to the digital version. -- Steven Critchfield <critch@basesys.com>
Hi all, I may need to connect to a system with E&M connectivity. Am I right in assuming a T1 card and Channel Bank will give me this connectivity? Regards Dave

However, you will probably need a T1 crossover cable, if you are not connecting to the outside world (i.e. cross 1&2 with 4&5). -Tilghman
Does the system you are connecting to have a digital interface (T1) or is it truly a 2/4 Wire E&M system? If it is T-1 then you do not need a channel bank however if it is the analog interface then you will. There are several choices of banks available and there are also several drop and insert muxes that can provide you a smaller number of channels that you can use instead of using all 24 from a channel bank. If the trunks are digital (a trunk per channel of a T1) then no channel bank is needed. Just plug the T1 into your Digium card and configure your zaptel.conf and zapata.conf files accordingly. If the trunks are analog, you would need a channel bank capable of converting E&M trunks to a T1 and plugging this into your Digium card. Don Pobanz> -Tilghman
