asterisk users - Feb 2004 - Make a phone dial remotely?

Is it possible with * to take make a SIP phone go off hook and dial
remotely? I assume this is a function of the phone. The scenario is to have
a script initiate a call from a given phone as if the user had dialed it
from the phone. This can be done with a softphone, but what about a
physical one?

Sure, my SNOM 200 phone can be dialed by passing the appropriate
command line to internal web interface. This way I can have frequently
called numbers as shortcuts on my desktop and dial them with one click.
That was the surprising part...the phone dials on the initial click on
the icon.

Take a look at the sample.call file.. You drop it into the 
/var/spool/asterisk/outgoing/ and it will initiate the call independent 
of the phone you use..
