Probably a dumb question, but what's the best Linux variant to use to build/run an Asterisk server. Hardware is Compaq DL360 with a Widcard 410. Debian/Fedora Core ? Steve -- NetTek Ltd Phone/Fax +44-(0)20 7483 2455 SMS steve-epage (at) gbnet.net [body] gpg 1024D/468952DB 2001-09-19

You will get opinion. Kinda like the old Ford / Chevy thing... The best answer I can give you is whatever you are comfortable / familiar with. Personally, I use debian sid (the unstable branch) which is really quite stable. I've been running it for over a year. The unstable bits are mostly in Gnome and other GUI apps, which you won't be running on a server anyway.
what you feel most confortable with. there's a best linux distro for *. Matteo. You will not have any crashes or system messages. In fact all your error logs are guaranteed to not even be opened once! : ) The only caveat is that CVS has not been converted yet... -- Steve __________________________________________________ You actually need to constantly be alert and willing to handle things, or life will find a way to get you good!

Having said that though, I'm partial to Slackware. It has a reputation for being stable and it has a simple package management system and adheres to a remote management philosophy (for lack of a better description). Cheers

With that said, I've got a DL380 running RH 8.0 (updated) that is rock solid with Asterisk. I had to go the zaptelrtc route to get meetme working though. ztdummy didn't work and I don't have any of the zaptel cards. It works great though. John

Packages for 0.7.1 are in the unstable tree and have some rough edges yet. Fedora Core 1 seems to be working quite well in our test environment. You can grab RPMS for 0.7.2 from ftp://ftp.nacs.net/asterisk/fc1 -- Vice President of N2Net, a New Age Consulting Service, Inc. Company http://www.n2net.net Where everything clicks into place!
