they are 3rd-party. I bought one, and I bought one directly from Digium. They both work the same as near as I can tell! -----Original Message----- From: SamW [mailto:swc@svtinc.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2004 4:34 PM To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Digium X100P for $43 Digium X100P / new cards are is available on ebay for $43. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3073050567&category=3 309 <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item=3073050567%26categ ory=3309> Hope this helps to who want to play with X100P! If you look closely in the item listings, the sellers say they are "compatible", i.e. not real Digium cards. I decided that the last thing I needed to do while learning about * was to start to diagnose problems with knock-off cards. I am happy to pay for the real cards knowing that I'm supporting * at the same time (mind you, I did give the other cards quite a long look). I think the adage "you get what you pay for" applies here. Your mileage may vary. Hoo-roo, Vic Cross

Sam: When you see 'X100P' cards for that price you can be assured that they are either used Digium (who would want to part with their X100P??) or more likely (as in this case and most cases) manufactured by a third-party. I don't know if they are technically 'pirate' cards, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing one. Stick to the Digium hardware that you know will work with Asterisk. As an added benefit you will be helping to support a company that supports Asterisk. Excerpt from the auction:> On Jan-20-04 at 21:23:17 PST, seller added the following information: > > Please note: All hardware is supported by DigitNetworks. DigitNetworks > (and its hardware) have no affiliation with Digium whatsoever. You generally do get what you pay for. I now don my asbestos flak vest (it is proof against flames). for the record, mine has the same fcc id number as the Digiums. Is this typical for copied hardware, or is there something a little fishy going on here? -----Original Message----- From: Doug Meredith [mailto:doug.meredith@skyridge.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2004 7:20 PM To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Re: Digium X100P for $43 SamW <swc@svtinc.com> wrote:>Digium X100P / new cards are is available on ebay for $43.Actually they seem to be made by Digit Networks. How do we know they're pirated? And how is a 132% difference in price trivial? ($43 vs. $99.95). Don't get me wrong.... I have bought hardware from Digium, and am very happy with all of it. But I also purchased some SIP equipment and channel banks, all out of my own money. I wanted to play with a second X100P and didn't fell like dropping any more coin than I had to. I have supported Digium, and will continue to in the future.... If they're truly counterfeit, they need to act! One call to eBay will solve it. They're even taking pre-orders on the T400P and E400P that they're getting ready to "build". $1050 a pop. Digium should get involved if this is truly a problem and not just "bad ethics". Is this typical for copied hardware, or is there > something a little fishy going on here? No, nothing fishy. It's a WinModem. Digium didn't make it to begin with. It's commodity hardware. You can get them for $14-19 a piece. But that's just not "the right thing to do". Asterisk development is paid for in part by sales of this hardware. Buy it from Digium, and you get support as well. I had a problem compiling the zap drivers when I got mine. When I called, the phone was picked up immediately, by a real person who knew exactly what they were talking about. Digium support actually SSHed into my box and fixed it/showed me what I was doing wrong. The support is well worth the price, especially if you are building a production server. Or if your time is worth anything at all for that matter. Daryl G. Is this typical for copied hardware, or is there > something a little fishy going on here?---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- I looked at the site of www.digitnetworks.com today. The thing I noticed was that nowhere on the site they listed the real (registered) company name or mention their address. One line has a (801) phone number listed otherwise only email addresses. Whois revealed the following: Registrant: Domains by Proxy, Inc. 15111 N Hayden Rd., Suite 160 PMB353 Scottsdale, Arizona 85260 United States Again no name, no address, sucessful way of hiding their identity. I stick with Digium, I know who they are, where they are and what I am getting, and I am supporting the developmnet of *. Alfred.
