[Asterisk-Users] Confused about Asterisk server with regards to Linux NAT Firewall
Hi all, I'm confused as to where I need to place the Asterisk server with repect to my Linux Firewall? I've read thru the message archives but have not been able to glean a clear answer. My Linux Firewall is a RH9 running IPTABLES doing NAT. Here are my questions: 1) I want to be able to make and receive SIP and IAX calls(From sources like FWD, IAXtel, iptel etc.). I read in one message stating the Asterisk server must have a public IP address for this to work. Is this the recommended configuration or does it work from behind the Linux Firewall with ports DNAT'd to the Asterisk server? If so, is there some doc on what needs to be configured in the iptables? 2) If the Asterisk server does indeed have to be outside the firewall with a public IP address, do my SIP phones also have to have public IP address or can they be behind the firewall? Thanks in advance, Ed Rubright -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... My Linux Firewall is a RH9 running > IPTABLES doing NAT.The probably easiest solution is to put * onto your firewall machine. That way Asterisk can communicate with the Internet through your public IP NIC, and your clients behind NAT can use the 2nd private IP NIC. Cheers, Philipp
Also on the budgetone phone calls to other sip phones sounds like a robot and is very choppy on outgoing calls. -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-admin@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-admin@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Larry D. Black Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2003 2:55 PM To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Bad echo on outgoing calls I have just installed and configured asterisk I have been playing with software phones and an analog phone plugged into a TDM card. I have one line coming in on a X100P card. All calls between stations and even over the net to Digium however I have just got a Grand stream Budgetone-101 phone and it works great except outgoing calls over the phone line. This type of call is also less than perfect on all other stations but not as bad as on the 101. Very choppy and almost unusable this phone is located on a switch with the asterisk server. This phone has very good quality on incoming calls over the same line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Larry D.
