For the archives: there are some instructions about how to modify
extconf.rb in the TextDrive forums:

But if the real source of this mismatch is that the interpreter was
compiled with cc, I would try to compile a tarball with gcc and work
with that one instead. Otherwise extensions would be compiled with a
different suite than the one used for the interpreter, and AFAIK that
is not advisable.
