[Lustre-discuss] Lustre 1.4.7 Beta 1 is now available
Also, is 1.5.90 synchronized with the 1.4.7 Beta 1 release? Does it include the same bugfixes and improvements? Those improvements appear to include kernel 2.6 NFS exports; is that correct? Many Thanks, Brent On Tue, 23 May 2006, EKC wrote:> I noticed the Bugzilla 10193 fix in the changelog. I noticed the Bugzilla 10193 fix in the changelog. So, does the 1.4.7 Beta 1 release include a patchless Lustre client? Thanks! They build their kernel with gcc4 and that one does not work well with Lustre (yet?), making it to eat way too much stack space and quickly overflow kernel stack leading to all kind of bad crashes as the result. Recompiling everything with gcc 3.4 seems to have fixed things, though. Bye, Oleg

I have uploaded 1.4.7beta1 with patchless client support to ftp://ftp.clusterfs.com/pub/people/green/patchless There is no patchless server support this time due to lack of time. Patchless client will go into one of next official 1.6.0 betas. Bye, Oleg

A lot of the required changes for patchless client are in 1.4.7 but not all of them. Cheers, Andreas -- Andreas Dilger Principal Software Engineer Cluster File Systems, Inc.

Hopefully this will mean that we''ll be able to run lustre clients on unpatched Ubuntu Dapper (2.6.15 kernel, including the needed patch for recursive symlinks). Now we''ll just need to get the debian/ubuntu packaging fixed and then there won''t be many excuses left for not making Ubuntu an officially supported distro for Lustre ;) /Nikke - still doing the mistake of replying to maillists using non-subscribed addresses... -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Niklas Edmundsson, Admin @ {acc,hpc2n}.umu.se | nikke@acc.umu.se --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I shrunk them. Just a heads up: I''m not sure about Dapper, but most debian and ubuntu/breezy use 3.4 to build the kernels. The only situation where I saw kernels compiled with gcc4 was when people trying to compile a kernel themselves and using the default compiler. That was me. I''m not 100% certain that I tried with a stock Ubuntu Dapper kernel as well (I was tinkering with patchless server, and so I added the recursive symlink patch), however a quick Google turned up this thread: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gcc-3.4/+bug/44139 This seems to indicate that they exclusively use gcc4 for the kernel now and want to see any legacy drivers catch up. gcc4 definitely caused mdt problems (patchless and patched). I am not certain, though, that it caused patchless client problems. It might work...
