Hi all, I installed build 81 on my HP ML310 G4 and booted with xvm kernel. Created nw.raw with "qemu-img create /netware/nw.raw 4G" and uploaded iso-images with scp. when I execute # virt-install -n netware --nographics --paravirt -f /netware/nw.raw -l /netware/nw.iso -r 1024 virt-install says ERROR: Could not find an installable distribution the install location I also tried http://wikis.sun.com/display/BigAdmin/xVM+installing+a+Solaris+PV+domU but it does not help. can somebody please point me to my mistakes ? Let me know if you need some more information thx This message posted from opensolaris.org

I haven''t tried it on OpenSolaris yet, but it installs fine (without HVM) on a Linux Dom0. Just specify xnloader.sys as kernel and make sure the installation ISO is accessible as a block device and it should work. If just SNV81 DomU at SNV81 Dom0, then this is step by step instruction with snapshots ,including deployment DomU to ZFS filesystem:- http://librenix.com/?inode=11665> can somebody please point me to my mistakes ? Alternatively you can do an HVM install (--hvm) if you have the right hardware regards john
Hi, I don''t think you can install netware with virt-install. Instead you should use xm create with an approbiate config file. I tried it with this config file: kernel = "/pool/xen/netware/XNLOADER.SYS" vcpus = 1 memory = "384" name = "netware" vif = [ '''' ] disk = [ ''fie:/pool/xen/netware/NW65OSSP7.iso,xvda,r'', ''file:/pool/xen/netware/netware.img,xvdb,w'' ] The netware kernel boots but then the DomU stops. IMHO the entries for the disk image and the ISO image are wrong but I do not (yet) know the correct device names for netware. I''m still lookiing for a working config file for a DomU running netware. regards Bernd Boris Girsch wrote:> Hi all, > > I installed build 81 on my HP ML310 G4 and booted with xvm kernel. Thanks, MRJ
In general, creating PV guests for Linuxes, Solaris distros requires particular distro to have Xen-enabled kernel , which would able running at DomU, properly communicate with Xen Hypervisor running at Linux or Solaris Dom0. So, the first test for SNV (build 66,75A and higher ) is to paravirtualize itself or build between 75A and 81 , but different from installed at Dom0 . Fedora 7(8) DomUs maybe also created at SNV81 Dom0 without problems. Creating NW DomU at SNV81 Dom0 is not trivial task ,please, view link above in regards of NW DomU at Linux Dom0. Personally, i am not interested in Novell NetWare products virtualization.
