Hi, I am looking for a single hardware box configuration where i need to install 4 Guest OS ( Solaris 10 (2) , Redhat Linux , Suse 10 ) . Can anyone suggest the best hardware configuration for this requirement? . And would like to know , Installation of 4 OS can be done simultaneously? Thanks Saju
Hi Saju, Because you want to run Solaris 10, you''ll need a box that is HVM capable (one that has Intel VT or AMD-V). You want to run four guests - simultaneously, in production, or just for install? I''d suggest either the 2200 M2 or the 4150, with enough memory for 4 guests (4GB should do it). Yes, you can install the four guests simultaneously. You''ll also want the PV drivers for Solaris 10, which should be available in the coming months as an update or patch on the Solaris 10 release train. - Russ Saju Francis wrote:> Hi, > > I am looking for a single hardware box configuration where i > need to install 4 Guest OS ( Solaris 10 (2) , Redhat Linux , Suse 10 ) > . You need a Intel Core 2 or AMD Opteron 1218 or higher for HVM, which Solaris 10 needs to run as a guest. James

I wonder maybe CentOS 5.1 can handle that also ? Just never tried anything different from AHCI or RAID on Linux Boxes :-) My intend is multibooting (with IDE emulation) vs Solaris 10 as VMware Guest OS at CentOS 5.X on { Inlel P35 (Intel X38) + Intel ICH9R } boards.> . It''s not the most up to date, but it''s certainly the most reliable and almost most compatible system I''ve had for a few years. For Solaris/OpenSolaris, it works like a dream :-) You can stock them with 8GB ram, and can probably get away with using 1tb disks on them, even though Sun says 500GB, which is what I have in addition to the standard 250gb that comes with the large configuration. Anyways, all-around, I''ve became hard pressed to find something comparable in spec that isn''t Dell or something you probably shouldn''t trust. I honestly trust this machine, I''ve always liked Sun''s hardware for the most part. James
