xen discuss - Nov 2007 - Query About Domain Configuration for Xen on Solaris 11 Build snv_77 i86pc

Hi All,

I have installed Solaris 11 Build snv_77 on x86 box. I have been facing 
problem while working with Xen (xm command)...

I have installed guest domain/VM/OS(Solaris 11 Build snv_77) on x86 box, 
using "virt-install" utility. After rebooting the host machine, my
guest
domain has become inactive. I am not able to perform any task on guest 
domain, including getting console. It seems, it got shutdown when I 
rebooted host.

Here are the sample o/p...

 bash-3.2# xm list
Name                                      ID   Mem VCPUs      State

kunal-xvm                                     1024     1

bash-3.2# xm start kunal-xvm
*Error: Disk isn''t accessible*                    ( disk file is
present
in the same directory where it was created before reboot)
Usage: xm start <DomainName>

Start a Xend managed domain
 -p, --paused                   Do not unpause domain after starting it
-----------------

Now how to make this guest domain active again. While reading through 
"xvm" man pages, I found that, we can set the following properties for
the domain.
1) on_xend_stop=ignore
2) on_xend_start=start

Que 1) How to set this properties for the domain, to make guest domain 
running when we reboot the host itself.

The user manual of Xen 3.0 say, you can put the domain config file under 
/etc/xen/auto  dir for automatic domain booting... But I dont see 
/etc/xen  dir on the host machine and domain console itself.

Que 2) Why it did not create the /etc/xen directory in my machine??

The XenSource docs won''t all apply here since ideally xVM will be
integrated with SMF, but at the moment it''s just slightly less than
full
of a port, and not the most current either.  Maybe the /etc/xen
directory is somewhere else like /usr/sfw since it is GNU licensed. 
Maybe if/when Xen is integrated with SMF, a flag will be part of the
guest''s configuration file itself, although this would mean
there''d need
to be a database like with zones to find the installed guests.  Sorry I
can''t answer directly, I don''t have the current bits still,
long story
there.  I''ve only played a little with Indiana (B75) and Xen, and by
the
subject, you''re on B77, a much newer consolidation of OpenSolaris.

Perhaps the one with the answer is the maintainers/developers for the
Solaris specific port, because as far as I can guess it''s just not
implemented yet, due to roadmaps, porting difficulties, or perhaps it''s
under another name.

Your domain config is broken for some reason. Please send us the output
of xm list -l kunal-xvm

Check that the disk line looks right (file/device still exists, etc.)
and report it to us.

This is difficult at the moment, we are missing the ability to set these
parameters easily (and we''re working on it). You''ll have to
create a .py
file for your domain in the old-style format, and specify it there.

Until we have get/set functionality, you can modify
domain state (e.g. properties which don''t already have
commands for modifying them) by doing the following
while the domain is shutdown...


# xm list -l <your domain name> > /tmp/mydomain.sxp

modify mydomain.sxp

# xm new -F /tmp/mydomain.sxp
