Hi Guys,
I''m relatively new to Opensolaris but have managed to install & get
running
a Dom 0 based on b73, and also xVM running on b76 with 2 windows DomUs.
All appears fine except for the VNC port always seeming to default to 0, so
that I can only VNC to one running Windows image at a time, and that any
attempt to protect the windows OS by installing an internet security suite
will crash it.
I have successfully upgraded the machine a few times - b73 to 74, then 75a
xVM. b76 was a clean start and last night I upgraded to b77.
Each time the upgrade method that I have used is to boot from the new build
DVD and select the upgrade OS option. A common problem that has accompanied
each upgrade is that immediately afterwards it is not possible to log into
the machine using GNOME. KDE works fine. I have managed to get the GNOME
login running again a day or so later in each case, but don''t really
know
what has fixed it - in one case I''m sure that I did nothing but wait!
Is there something fundamental that I''m doing wrong with this method of
upgrading?
Can anyone shed any light on why GNOME doesn''t seem to like the OS
being
upgraded?
I''m pretty impressed with the OS - considering that I am no longer a
techo,
haven''t played a lot with Solaris but have managed to get running -
with the
help of the materials on the OpenSolaris site.
- xVM with 2 windows DomUs
- Samba file sharing between machines, to enable the small windows DomU
machine to access the Solaris file shares
- Sophos Anti-virus on the DomUs, inc the Centralised console
- blastwave packages for multimedia etc
- Syncing to a Palm PDA to Sun Calendar.
Thanks!
