Hello, I want to install Xen binaries. According to : "Iinstallation instructions for Solaris dom0/domU" (see : http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/How-To-8-15-06/install/) It should be installed under Solaris Express build 44. Before trying my question is : is build 44 of SXCR is a must? Can I install it on higher version of SXCR (like SXCR b50)? Regards, Xu This message posted from opensolaris.org
> Before trying my question is : > is build 44 of SXCR is a must?AFAIK it''s the minimum version required. For example I installed it on snv_46 and that works. But keep in mind that the BFU may replace some necessary driver with outdated ones. I had this problem after installing the previous Xen drop (my experiences with Xen on Solaris are documented here: http://home.arcor.de/bnsmb/public/htdocs/Xen_and_Solaris.html) regards Bernd -- Bernd Schemmer Stalburgstr. 14 60318 Frankfurt "Ein Herz für Kinder" - Ihre Spende hilft! Can I > install it on higher version of SXCR (like SXCR b50)?We only tested on top of build 44, though a few people have reported success with other builds. If you report a problem on top of some other build it''s quite a bit of hassle for us to attempt to reproduce, etc., so we might ask for b44 based report. The project is targeting Nevada integration in early 2007, at which points newer bits will become available. dme. -- David Edmondson, Sun Microsystems, http://www.dme.org

That means your desktop has to have either new-ish AMD processors that support AMD-v. I believe this is any Opteron with a [128]xxx model number, Athlons that are socket AM2, and Dual Core Turions). You can also use Recent Intel processors support VT-x, but I couldn''t tell you which do. We do have the Xen HVM support working internally with OpenSolaris and it should be usable on our next "release". The next release will happen we finish integration into main branch of OpenSolaris over the next couple builds. Note that 32 on 64 currently only works via HVM. Support for paravirtualized 32-bit domUs on a 64-bit dom0 is still under development. Joe This message posted from opensolaris.org

A simple way to differentiate which AMD processors that have AMD-V, is they also all use DDR2 memory, except for those branded Sempron (which do not have the virtualization extensions).
