Your scope would include supporting a wide range of developments, from small prototypes to complex fielded systems in daily use. You would be a key member of each team, interacting with engineers and scientists to identify the IT requirements and address them in a systematic manner. You would be a member of SRI's Software Engineering Program (SWEP), a highly respected provider of IT, software development and management services to all of SRI. SWEP's structure provides the flexibility to contribute to many diverse projects. This role would typically include the following tasks and many more: -- work with early-stage project teams to define IT infrastructures and solutions; -- contribute to existing projects by providing innovative IT solutions that use the latest hardware, new software tools, and novel combinations of existing technologies; -- support existing systems in the lab and field by implementing and troubleshooting networks, setting up IT support services, and diagnosing system issues -- including isolating and debugging hardware/software problems; -- support small-scale network infrastructures, from installing and configuring managed switches to designing and implementing remote internet access; -- design, implement and document data storage, archiving and recovery plans; -- design and implement scripts to automate data transfers and other services, for both internal and remote users; -- assist in the building and installation of new software releases; -- provide configuration management and documentation for local, flight and field systems. Requirements Experience: Leading candidates will have 5+ years experience in the design and implementation of information technology (IT) tools and systems. Candidates should be comfortable designing and implementing IT solutions to address real project needs. Successful applicants should have extensive experience in Linux system administration (Red Hat EL, Fedora Core), network design and implementation, network and general system (hardware/software) debugging, computer setup and configuration, scripting methods, storage systems, software installers, version control tools and system deployment methods. At a minimum, candidates should have strong operating system experience with Linux and Windows. Applicants should have familiarity with Java, UML, XML, ANT and SQL, and be able to document IT infrastructures and processes clearly. Experience with software development is a plus. Familiarity with Solaris system administration is also a plus. Education: BS degree in software engineering or equivalent; computer engineering, computer science or a related area is a plus but not required.
