I am looking to for a systems person in NYC for my client (onsite) Reporting to the VP, Network Operations, the Senior Systems Engineer is part of a team responsible for the architecture, build, design and operation of the company?s computing, network, and storage infrastructure. The Senior Systems Engineer works closely with engineers during the analysis and design phases of the software development process. The Senior Systems Engineer participates in the development and definition of processes to ensure solutions are consistent with the business strategies. The Senior Systems Engineer analyzes and tunes hardware/software configurations, automates existing manual processes, and identifies improvements to our existing tools. Key will be the ability to adapt to a highly nimble business environment, this means using technical skills and experience to make the right decision, quickly. Personal and team accountability will be fundamental to your success in this role. Establishment and evolution of key metrics, ranging from operational to relevant business insight is critical to success. Key success factors: ? Responsible for and assists in the troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure problems ? Performs application profiling, capacity planning, workload modeling and forecasting on systems, networks, databases, and storage. ? Designs, prepares and conducts new technology evaluations to determine infrastructure solutions based on business requirements and makes recommendations for improvement of infrastructure, technology, operational capability, reliability and performance. ? Analyzes the performance of the infrastructure against current needs and planning for needed improvements. ? Ensures optimal system and storage configuration and provisioning through engineering health checks and engagement of storage / system vendors as required. ? Responsible for reporting of system and storage allocation, usage trends, I/O performance and bottleneck analysis ? Responsible for developing, maintaining and documenting technology standards used in the environment. Qualifications: ? In-depth experience in deploying and managing mid to large scale distributed Unix and Linux environments. Candidate should have experience managing large and remote installations of ~500 servers and 200TB+ storage ? Extensive experience in systems and storage capacity management, maintenance, forecasting and lifecycle planning focused on business requirements. ? Extensive experience in UNIX shell scripting and developing automation tools using perl, python or other languages. ? Excellent knowledge of server hardware and software troubleshooting with mid-range operating systems software and hardware. The company uses the following technologies: CentOS, HP Proliant, Jboss, Mysql, Oracle, NetApp, Cisco, AWS. ? Advanced or fundamental understanding of the following technologies: mysql, Oracle, SAN, NAS. ? In depth knowledge & experience of Linux and Apache. ? Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and change with shifting priorities. ? Demonstrated ability to engage with business owners to understand their requirements, develop strategies to support business goals. ? 5+ years experience with performance analysis, systems software, and systems architecture. ? Ability to operate in high pressure environment and successfully handle multiple priorities. ? Knowledge of system performance methodologies along with hands on empirical monitoring. ? Proficiency in scripting/programming with Perl and Pytho ? Advanced or Fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP networking, architecture (VLANS, Subnetting, Supernetting, Trunking, Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, EtherChannel, Firewalls) and core technologies (DNS, LDAP, NFS, FTP, DHCP, etc.) ? B.S. Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred ? At least 5 years in a similar position and 10 years as a systems engineer/administrator.
