Hello, I'm with a CLEC/ISP/Webhost in Pensacola, FL and we're currently looking for a fairly knowledgeable individual to help us out a bit. We're a decent sized shop with hardware ranging from old VA Linux machines, to new Iron Systems boxes, Dell systems, and Sun's from Netra's to 6500's. The job description on Monster is below. We have a of Apache, tomcat, PHP, Perl, Oracle, MySQL, J2EE stuff, Sendmail, and QMail. Successful candidate must have excellent oral & written communication skills; ? Maintain high degree of self-motivation and independent decision making; ? Possess excellent organizational and research skills with the ability to meet deadlines; ? High degree of proficiency in basic computer applications (i.e. Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Required Qualifications: ? Capability of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management. ? Working knowledge of all aspects of UNIX systems administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printing systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software. ? An in-depth understanding of a UNIX-based operating system including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, and file system concepts ("inode", "superblock"). ? Working knowledge of fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts including the configuration of NFS and NIS. ? Utilizes nslookup to check information in the DNS. ? Understands basic routing concepts. ? A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts. ? Ability to do minimal debugging and modification of C programs. Preferred Qualifications: ? Experience installing boards and memory into systems. ? Experience with SCSI device setup and installation. ? Experience installing/configuring peripherals (for example, disks, modems, printers, or data acquisition ? Experience with enterprise level backup solution such as: Veritas Netbackup or Legato Networker. ? Telecommunications Knowledge/ Experience Essential Functions (Including but not limited to): ? Selects and implements optimal hardware and operating system software to support IT and IT-supported application and database management systems.? Develops technical guidelines, standards, and procedures to ensure adequate security for, and efficient use of system resources.? Establishes and maintains appropriate inventories for the enterprise?s hardware and operating system software information.? Establishes and maintains capacity planning tools, techniques and methodology to monitor IT computer and network platform performance and workload metrics.? Plans and performs disaster recovery tests.? Improves effectiveness and efficiency of operating systems by evaluating, recommending and, if approved, implementing software packages and tools which enhance security, capacity, and/or performance of IT systems.?
