Wondering if the ZFS features pertaining to encryption have been ,or will be , ported to Solaris 10 (Sparc) anytime soon? Using Solaris 10 ( 10/08) and it appears that the encryption hasn''t been enabled in this version of ZFS for Solaris 10. zfs-crypto is only available for the OpenSolaris OS? Thanks for any help! It will run on OpenSolaris on SPARC (OpenSolaris on SPARC is coming, and there''s nothing in ZFS crypto that is x64-specific). Nico --

However I will answer since I can do so authoritatively. There are no current plans to back port the encryption support to any Solaris 10 update release on any platform. If it were done it would be done for SPARC and x86 (because doing otherwise would involve considerable more work and is counter the the philosophy of Solaris). > Using> Solaris 10 ( 10/08) and it appears that the encryption hasn''t been > enabled in this version of ZFS for Solaris 10.Correct because the project hasn''t finished yet and hasn''t even integrated into the OpenSolaris ONNV code base. It is still in active development - I pushed the resync to the onnv_108 code base earlier today.> zfs-crypto is only available for the OpenSolaris OS?It is a project in development and is not in any official or otherwise OpenSolaris binary release. -- Darren J Moffat
