its not included in the tarball.. I''ve tried using autoconf
2.59/2.60/2.61 but they fail to create a working configure script. (s10u3)

Ah. normally you use autogen. However, since libSDL-1.2.12 has been
officially released, I''ll update the downloads to point to the official
libSDL-1.2.12 sources.
In the meantime, you should be able to get the source drop from
www.libsdl.org.
