Just as a last resort in case everything else fails, you could setup a
small PXE Linux USB Stick with just the necessary drivers for your ethernet
card. Then you would create a small init script to load the ethernet
module, start dhcp and finally download the kernel/initrd images using
FTP. Once download is completed, it would call kexec to switch to the new
kernel/initrd images as it would happen if using PXE.
