Is there a definitive list of what users and services all of the UID/GIDs below 100 are reserved for anywhere ? -- Paul Kraus
Paul, Scroll down a bit in this section to the default passwd/group tables: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2379/6n4m1vl99?a=view Cindy Paul Kraus wrote:> On 9/17/07, Darren J Moffat <darrenm at opensolaris.org> wrote: > > >>Why not use the already assigned webservd/webserved 80/80 uid/gid pair ? >> >>Note that ALL uid and gid values below 100 are explicitly reserved for >>use by the operating system itself and should not be used by end admins. >> This is why smc failed to make the change. > > > Calling the Sun ONE Web Server (the reservation of UID/GID 80) > part of the operating system is a stretch. It happens that I ran the ARC case to add that uid/gid pair for the "Sun Java Enterprise System Web Server" first but they aren''t reserved just for that webserver. If you look at the Apache2 packages in Solaris Express you will see that the httpd.conf is configured to use that uid/gid. > Is there a definitive list> of what users and services all of the UID/GIDs below 100 are reserved > for anywhere ?The master reference for those at are currently allocated is the ARC[1] case log and the /etc/passwd source[2] file in the the ON consolidation. [1] http://opensolaris.org/os/community/arc/ [2] http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/onnv/onnv-gate/usr/src/cmd/Adm/sun/passwd ALL values below 100 are reserved and may be allocated by an ARC case at any time. -- Darren J Moffat
