[Shorewall-users] iproute and shorewall present but no install.
Hello, I have had a lot of success installing/configuring shorewall on my own system using webmin. Recently, I have been contracted to do some remote admin on a isp co-lo box all through a webmin server index connection from my locally running webmin server connected to the remote server. I was able to download shorewall from: http://shorewall.infohiiway.com/pub/shorewall/LATEST.rpm but when I hit the install button I get the following error: Install failed : error: failed dependencies:iproute is needed by shorewall-1.4.0-1 At the command line I typed in: ip and got an ip usage message. Also, I check for installed packages and I got the following: Description Linux 2.2 maintains compatibility with the basic configuration utilities of the network (ifconfig, route) but a new utility is required to exploit the new characteristics and features of the kernel. This package includes the new utilities. Package iproute2 Class Networking/Admin Version 2.4.7.ss010803-9 Vendor Alexey Kuznetsov <kuznet@ms2.inr.ac.ru> Architecture i386 Installed 18/Mar/2003 02:57 Any and all suggestions as for possible approaches to diagnose this problem are welcomed. Please advise, David Brown.

Please advise, David Brown. >What''s to diagnose? The Shorewall rpm is built to be dependent on the ''iproute'' rpm (as RedHat names it). Apparently, the distribution that you are using calls it ''iproute2'' (see your own post above). Simply install Shorewall using the --nodeps options of rpm. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.sf.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net
