I got an idea - whenever someone subscribe to the list(s) the system send a link to the FAQ (http://www.shorewall.net/FAQ) as a part of their welcomme-to-the-list mail. Ditto with the monthly reminder mail from the lists(s).... Maybe we can get some better focus on the faq that way. I also saw a message that said "...Just how do you keep the idiots from posting rubbish"....Please keep in mind that we where all newbies at one point or another. What we need to to is to help the newbies get up to speed FAST so that we (ehh Tom - or someone else for that matter) don''t need to answer the same question(s) all the time. Just my two øre (that''s the Norwegian "cent" :-) Best regards Jorn

In addition, the other content (HOWTO''s, guides, website, etc.) will still be controlled. If the community is to grow up, it needs to accept responsibility. A Wiki is one way to demonstrate it''s ready to be a partner in user support. Note: in my experience, many people willing to write documentation. Mike & All, I''m not so sure that the URL to the FAQ is in the reminder - below is what I got as a reminder a few days back. We could ask Tom nicely if we could add something like: "Please make sure you read the FAQ, who is avalible at http:/..., before you post to this list. Someone might allready have solved you problem"... Jorn ----------------- This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your lists.shorewall.net mailing list memberships. It includes your subscription info and how to use it to change it or unsubscribe from a list. You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on. In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such changes. For more info, send a message to the ''-request'' address of the list (for example, mailman-request@lists.shorewall.net) containing just the word ''help'' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to you with instructions. If you have questions, problems, comments, etc, send them to mailman-owner@lists.shorewall.net. Thanks!

Hi, I just feel shorewall information in the site, mailing list, faq, etc. is well implemented, and understandable for everyone new in packet filtering. With some knowledge in general networking and read some of the guides your on the way. Hello, Idiots was a bad term .. And I apologize for the term .. Trust me .. Idiot Postings And Moi Are On Familiar Terms :-) I just don''t want "I Love Jane And She Loves Me" Kinda posts .. Or Advertising .. Or Profanity Laced Tirades ... You Get My Drift .. :-) If A Wiki Can Be Moderated Before A Post becomes visible .. Yes .. I would welcome that ... Mike, I don''t dissagree - and it''s allready there - however I feel we have established that folks post before they get to the support page thus my though was to make the FAQ more "avalible".
