There are various packages (not libraries) to fit mixed models, and hence the
individual animal (or plant) model - perhaps the best known being lme4.
There's also MCMCglmm which takes a Baseyian approach, and asreml which is
licence managed. This is nothing like an exclusive list (e.g., nadiv and hglm),
but it's a start.
