Dear Tom,

I  have tried changing that also but no success yet. I want to be able
to  use smtp, pop3, ftp, ssh and ping from my internal machines to the
internet.  I have been reading a lot of documentation for the past few
hours but could not find a solution yet. Hope somebody on the list can
help me.

Unlikely since you have posted to the Shorewall Development list rather 
than the Shorewall Users list.

Which QuickStart Guide did you use to configure Shorewall? Or was Shorewall 
installed as part of your distribution?

I  am  using  Mandrake Network Firewall linux distribution which has a
web  frontend  to  configure  the  firewall.  I used that frontend and
configured shorewall. After that i started tweaking the files directly
without the frontend.

So you didn''t read any of the Shorewall QuickStart Guides? If not, then
I
suggest that you start there. If you have a single public IP address, look 
at http://www.shorewall.net/two-interface.htm. If you have more than one 
public IP address, try http://www.shorewall.net/shorewall_setup_guide.htm.
