samba - Jul 2018 - Samba 4.8.2 setting ntlm auth to mschapv2-and-ntlmv2-only is returning error

You are absolutely correct the PATH was pointing to the incorrect version
of the preinstalled package.
Checking that everything was point to /usr/local/samba has fixed this
issue, such a simple thing.
