[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2005/04/msg00290.html As /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu is a conffile, dpkg won''t remove it on upgrades, and it''s the job of the maintainer not to leave it around (especially if some other package is to provide it afterwards). See Bug#308252 for a sample preinst script that I just wrote dealing with a similar issue.
