[Eventmachine-talk] EventMachine''s Licensing
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 I''ve noted an unfortunate inconsistency in the licensing documents in the various EventMachine distributions. According to its RubyForge page, the licensing of EventMachine is supposedly a disjunctive Ruby License/LGPL, however the copyright notices within EventMachine itself and the COPYING file in the EventMachine distributions indicate that it is licensed solely under the GPL. This could cause some unfortunate legal issues as the library becomes more widely used. Francis, what exactly is your intention for EventMachine''s license? Given that the license published with the distribution is the GPL, that presumably is the license the code is under, but people downloading your code in good faith from RubyForge would be led to believe that it has the less restrictive licenses noted there. I think that it would be better for everyone in the long run if the project''s licensing status be clarified once and for all. Please, either change the license documents and headers within the source distribution or change EventMachine''s trove categorization to reflect the fact that it''s GPL only. - -- We are here for no purpose, unless we can invent one. http://stormwyrm.blogspot.com/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.3-ecc0.1.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iQEVAwUBRJEa04IzXJ0NX9pgAQgrJwf+MJomZ9Yp3XLfBir9+h8bsomeZdhfo6LX AYx8cvk180/q/EKYnp/c+P1UeoqjC3UnNOZOg5KY3LOI7F0+rOkfUOdst8tdIIvh srcwX/zH5jlsz+/Rpk1+mid+xEEj2gVTzUSYHqJKIWwgIVka3GGy261nzuilCwQp PK33kd7Tu4OhT2spiEiiGs2hX39zBQ8CPJyJgBTnL+dnGhbFmBlHFH59xyjV/xOB pO77OVs4d4hYVzWN/omBCa1H+9TwrYo+xezmxV3LoYphm113W7ZCorYAVN+HLLO+ 747tz17FtIJMWemaU0Q22dcU6w15IdQ/NqmezuN+jrW83YQOWCxX1A==cnaU -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
It will be a disjunctive Ruby/LGPL license. The various source files which indicate pure GPL are in error. We''ll fix this in time for the next release.
